September 12, 2011:
Program: Learn about AmChem - a major Ambler employer from the 1930s to the 1970s.  AmChem produced agricultural and metallurgical chemicals at their industrial site along the railroad line.  The company’s founder James Harvey Gravell moved his company to Ambler in the 1920s. He started programs for employee profit sharing and one year in the 1930s, paid the debts of all of his employees. Gravell was also a major benefactor of Weidner University. Gary Fuess will share AmChem history and present  company records and artifacts to our collection.

Program: Antique Car Collecting.

April 12, 2010:
Program: Homer-Laughlin China Co., a history of the world's largest pottery company.
Speaker: Frank Russo, Jr, Former president and member, WVHS
The presentation will trace the companyʼs products from its inception in 1877 until today. Some highlights will be the story of Fiesta, a depression era design which has endured from 1936 - 2010. Frank will use his personal collection to illustrate some of the companyʼs most important lines including Laughlin Art China, White Ironstone, Yelloware, and the color lines including Fiesta, Harlequin, Riviera, Wells Art, Tango and Rhythm. The company, located in Newell, West Virginia, continues to operate today producing restaurant lines and Fiesta for modern tabletops. Join us for “China Night” at the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society.

February 8, 2010:                                                                                                                                                                LOCATION CHANGE: Wissahickon Valley Public Library in Blue Bell                                                                                    Program: Meet Hannal Till, George Washington's Cook.                                                                                                         Speaker: Ajena Rogers, Valley Forge Nat'l Park Ranger                                                                                                              Ajena Rogers shares a Living History presentation as Hannah Till, an African American woman who spent 6 1/2 years working as George Washington's cook. A Revoluntionary War veteran, Hannah Till purchased her freedom in 1780.ley Forge Nat'l Park Ranger

Program: Learn about the Merci Train. After WWII, French civilians donated "Thank you" items enough to fill 49 railroad cars!  These railroad cars and items survive today in museums and private collections.

Each spring the St. Francis Society of Ambler holds a local celebration, mass, parade, and community meal.  Learn more about the tradition and its connections with Ambler history.

January 12, 2009:
Program: Women's Horticultural School of Ambler
Speaker: Peggy Johnston, WVHS

The Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women was among the first in the nation to educated women for careers in horticulture and agriculture. It was founded by Jane Bowne Haines whose family owned Wyck. In 1910 she and a "congress of women" managed the construction of numerous buildings and began the establishment of gardens and farm plots and an arboretum at the site off Meetinghouse Rd. in Upper Dublin. During WWI and WWII the school trained women to grow and preserve food for the war effort. In 2002 the school was recognized by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The arboretum grounds are open to the public.
